From a collection of stories gathered by students of Shaykh Salih al-Ja’fari concerning the shaykh’s teachings and experiences with our master al-Husayn.
“I heard Shaykh Salih al-Ja’fari say in a lesson, “I used to visit our Master al-Husayn and I used to ask him questions on matters of knowledge which were submitted to me in the Noble Azhar, and they were important questions of knowledge. While our Master al-Husayn was speaking to me, a farmer entered the maqam, carrying a hatchet on his shoulder. Our Master al-Husayn left me and went to the farmer and said, “O so-and-so, how are you? How are your children and your wife?” And our Master al-Husayn began to supplicate for this man. Then I said in myself, “Our Master al-Husayn leaves me and goes to this man while I am standing here with questions on knowledge.” Our Master al-Husayn looked at me and said, “We love people who are lovers [of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Ahl al-Bayt] and come to us from far places, and we supplicate for them.””
